About the practice

Rising Tide Family Therapy, PC is a California-based practice dedicated to addressing systemic challenges — including burnout, intergenerational patterns, and the inherited roles that shape individuals' lives and relationships. Grounded in a systems-informed and structural therapy approach, the practice helps clients transform internal foundations, enabling lasting change with generational impact.

Our mission is to guide individuals toward becoming leaders in their own lives, fostering healthy connections and environments. Rising Tide offers therapy that empowers individuals to create meaningful change — not just for themselves, but for the systems they are part of.

The role

This is a part-time, remote, W2 employee role for a pre-licensed associate clinician (AMFT) accruing hours toward California LMFT licensure. Beyond clinical work and supervised hours, this role is designed as preparation for eventual private practice — an opportunity to learn what it takes to build and sustain a practice from the inside, with mentorship, infrastructure, and a model to grow alongside.

The associate will deliver systems-informed therapy to individuals, couples, and families under clinical supervision, while developing the clinical, operational, and professional foundations needed to one day run a practice of their own.

Professional development

Clinical work

  • Conducting structured therapy sessions for individuals, couples, and families under clinical supervision
  • Providing clinical assessments, creating tailored treatment plans, and documenting progress in compliance with HIPAA
  • Participating in regular supervision, case consultation, and ongoing professional development
  • Developing your therapeutic style and clinical identity within a systems-informed framework

Practice-building (mentored, not solo)

  • Learning the operational rhythms of private practice: caseload management, scope of practice, client retention, scheduling, and clinical pacing
  • Understanding the business and ethics of sustainable practice — fee structures, insurance vs. private pay, intake systems, and clinical sustainability
  • Building professional relationships and referral networks under the Rising Tide name, with guidance on BBS advertising rules for associates
  • Contributing to practice visibility and community engagement in ways aligned with the mission and voice (e.g., written content, community-facing offerings, professional gatherings, networking within your existing circles)
  • Building a self-sourced caseload over time, supported by a tiered fee structure that rewards practice-building (see Compensation & Growth)

Mission alignment

  • Collaborating with the team to align clinical work with Rising Tide’s commitment to fostering transformative and generational change
  • Bringing your own perspective, lived experience, and clinical voice to a practice that values distinctiveness over conformity

Compensation & Growth

This is a W2 hourly role with a tiered fee split designed to reward practice-building. Associates earn a base rate per clinical hour for clients sourced from Rising Tide’s intake pipeline, and a higher rate per clinical hour for clients the associate brings in through their own outreach, referrals, and network development. Client source is tracked at intake. Specific rates and structure will be discussed in the interview.

The intent of this structure is straightforward: the practice invests in your supervision, infrastructure, and mentorship; you invest in your clinical growth and the relationships that will eventually carry your career. As your self-sourced caseload grows, so does your hourly compensation — building both your clinical hours and your long-term professional foundation in the same stretch of work.

In addition to compensation, the role includes

  • Weekly individual or triadic supervision toward LMFT licensure
  • Structured mentorship in practice operations, ethics, and growth
  • Access to Rising Tide’s branding, marketing infrastructure, and clinical community
  • Flexibility to develop your clinical voice and area of focus within the practice’s mission
  • Benefits and additional perks discussed in interview

Who this role is for

This role is for an associate thinking long-term — someone who wants supervised hours and a model of what thoughtful, values-driven private practice can look like. The right candidate is clinically curious, willing to develop a professional presence in their networks and community, and invested in building the foundations of a clinical career that lasts well beyond associate hours.

If your eventual goal is to run your own practice, work in group practice leadership, or simply practice with more autonomy and clarity than most associate roles offer, this is structured to help you get there.

Qualifications

  • Active registration as a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (AMFT) with the California BBS, accruing hours toward LMFT licensure
  • Master’s or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy, counseling, social work, or a related field
  • Experience or training in structural and systems-based therapy approaches
  • Skills in clinical assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic intervention
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and clinical attunement skills
  • Proficiency in maintaining thorough, HIPAA-compliant documentation
  • Comfort with telehealth platforms and delivering therapy in a virtual setting
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while staying connected to a clinical team
  • Specialization or interest in family systems, trauma, intergenerational patterns, or identity within inherited roles is a plus
  • Demonstrated interest in practice-building, professional visibility, or community engagement is a strong plus
